5 stars only because I can't put a million!! I was going to wait until the very end of my son's treatment with Bowen Legacy Dental before writing a review, but in the chance I can help lend advice to the parent questioning the choice between the typical orthodontic route and the holistic, orthotropic route, I felt it prudent to give the review now. My son is wrapping up his orthotropic appliance and myofunctional therapy and we couldn't be happier with this route. In short, it has been life changing. My son entered the practice with what at the time I assumed was a pronounced overbite. Rather than an overbite, it turned out to be an underdeveloped lower jaw causing his tongue position to restrict proper breathing. In his situation, this lack of development in his lower jaw contributed to multiple health issues. He had near constant sinus issues and continuous illnesses that prevented him from actively engaging in typical childhood play without coming down with something. Additionally, he had a fairly pronounced stutter that caused him insecurities and social phobias. While our dentist at the time recommended two orthodontists, a nagging internal doubt had me research alternative routes. With online digging, I stumbled upon Bowen Legacy Dental which promoted extensive dental therapy options. Very grateful we went in for a consultation. If we had gone the traditional route of orthodontic braces, it would have probably made his health issues worsen due to not fixing the root of the problem. With traditional orthodontic treatment, they would have moved his upper teeth back causing more restriction to his tongue placement thereby further restricting proper breathing. (also leads to sleep apnea later in life) Traditional orthodontic braces may have made his mouth slightly more aesthetically pleasing (maybe), but I'm doubtful he would look as handsome as he does now, because with his lower jaw moved forward and widened, he looks much more like his older brother! His brother and him now both have the same looking chin! Proof positive that THIS was how his jaw SHOULD have developed had he not been born premature and had health issues as birth. Aesthetics aside, they are nothing compared to the health benefits my son has received from orthotropic and myofunctional therapy. My son is rarely, RARELY sick anymore! Such a healthy teenager! Additionally, and I can't confirm this was the cure, my son's stutter is almost completely gone! He even performed in a play at his school this past winter and is excited for when his speech class gets to the debate portion of the semester! While stuttering typically is unlike most speech issues as it often is hard to pinpoint a way to overcome, in my view, orthotropic therapy is absolutely a major factor in my son's cessation of stuttering. His mouth opened up and his tongue could relax into the position it was meant. It makes sense to me. Lastly, this team! SO wonderful!! From the super warm and friendly front desk (Lexi, we love you!), the always pleasant and caring dental assistants and hygienists, to the incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated Dr. Gehlert and Dr. Beck, we couldn't have landed in a better group of caring professionals. They really truly care about you. Dr. Beck even squeezed us in at the last minute shortly after an appliance adjustment felt a bit off. He bent over backwards to accommodate us to make sure the progress made didn't see any setbacks. When this happened, it was a REALLY busy day in their office, so I knew the whole team at Bowen was shuffling a very busy schedule to fit us in. The care and concern for our wellbeing were evident. They care for you here. We are so, so grateful to find this amazing dentist/orthodontist. They are an oasis in a sea of modern, standard, apathetic, allopathic care. Thank you Bowen Legacy Dental!!!!
