Happy February to all of our patients. If you have tossed aside the resolutions you set in January, now is a great time to pick them back up. With over 10 months left in the year, there is still plenty of time to work toward your goals, no matter what they are. We know it’s easier said than done. To help you, we’re breaking down tips about how to work toward the best version of yourself!
Identify areas to improve:
When it comes to resolutions, people often bite off more than they can chew. If you found your initial resolutions were too intense, it’s time to reevaluate them. Identify smaller areas in your life that need strengthening and commit to accomplishing these goals.
When it comes to resolution or goal ideas, we have plenty! According to surveys, over 32% of Americans report that they never floss, 11% of Americans only visit the dentist every two to three years, and over 30% of people brush only once per day. If any of these sound like you, this is the year to make a change! Though dental resolutions may not be as flashy as learning a new language or playing the Ukulele, your dental health impacts all areas of your wellness. Start day by day—when it comes to your health, any improvement is worth celebrating! By making small changes to your oral hygiene routine, diet, or healthy living habits, you can positively impact your total-body wellness year-round.
Set yourself up for success:
When it comes to self-improvement, change comes slow and steady. And it’s never too late (even in February!) to start improving your life. Set realistic and attainable goals so that you are motivated to work toward them. While you’re at it, use tools, apps, or a friend’s support to help you. For instance, if you want to improve your dental hygiene with daily flossing, set up a calendar with regular reminders. Trying to live a more active lifestyle? Make a pact with a friend and become more active together. If you want to increase your brushing time, listen to your favorite song as you brush. Add an extra verse or chorus to your brushing time until you hit two minutes. This type of goal setting can help you form achievable resolutions while holding you accountable.
Stay positive:
Do not let short-term setbacks distract you from your long-term goals! Setbacks are a part of life. You could brush your teeth properly for three months and still end up with a cavity. However, know that every time you brush well, floss thoroughly, or visit the dentist, you’re setting yourself up for a healthier, brighter, and more confident future. With this mindset, we know you will enjoy better total-body wellness by the end of 2021!
